The CEO of the Serum Institute of India, Adar Poonawalla, said that their Covovax vaccine will be approved as a booster against Covid-19 in the next 10 to 15 days. Poonawalla told the media that the vaccine works very well against the Omicron variant of the coronavirus.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an event at Bharati Vidyapeeth University here on Sunday, the SII CEO said, “The central government has a lot of stock of Covisheild and also the Covovax vaccine will be approved as a booster in the next 10 to 15 days”
When Adar Poonawalla was asked about the availability of Covisheild vaccine and its insufficient supply to the state and district, he replied, “The central government has a large stock of Covisheild which they can provide to the state, as now the production of Covisheild is stopped at SII, we can start it if needed , but the Covovax vaccine will be approved as a booster in the next 10 to 15 days, it works well against the Omicron variant of the coronavirus.”
He added, “During Covid-19, everyone was looking at India, not just for healthcare but also because the country was able to take care of a huge population and also helped 70 to 80 nations. All this was possible because of the leadership of our central government and state governments, health workers, manufacturers, they all worked together with one common goal.”
Poonawalla also received an award from NCP chief Sharad Pawar and Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Dr. Patangrao Kadama in Maharashtra.
