Covid-19: Active cases in the country dips to 5,37,045

The Daily new Covid-19 cases in the country has slipped below 50,000 after around 40 days. The total Covid-19 cases reported in the country has reached 4,26,31,421, while the active cases declined to 5,37,045, says the data updated by the Union Health Ministry, on Sunday.

The data updated at 8 am stated that a total of 44,877 fresh infections were logged across the country, while the total number of reported deaths climbed to 5,08,665 with 684 fresh fatalities being reported in the last 24 hours. For the past one week, the daily Covid-19 cases have been recorded to be less than one lakh.

The total active cases stand at 5,37,045 which is 1.26 per cent of the total reported infections. As per the ministry data, the national Covid-19 recovery rate has marked further improvements and has reached 97.55 per cent.

As per the ministry data, the daily positivity rate has been recorded at 3.17 per cent. At the same time, the weekly positivity rate in the country has been recorded at 4.46 per cent. This has led to a reduction in the active Covid-19 caseload where 73,398 cases have been recorded in the past 24 hours.

The data further marks that 4,15,85,711 people have recuperated from the disease and have been discharged. At the same time, the total deaths in the country stand at 5,08,665 with 684 new cases. According to the published updated data, the fatality rate in the country stands at 1.19 per cent.

Under the ramped up nationwide Covid-19 vaccination drive, a total of 1,72,81,49,447 doses have been administered in the country so far, which is 49,16,801 doses more than yesterday. A total number of 14,15,279 Covid-19 tests were done in the country in the last 24 hours.

Out of the reported 684 fresh fatalities, 427 deaths have been reported from Kerala, while 38 cases are from Karnataka. To date, the country has reported a total of 5,08,665 fatalities which includes 1,43,387 deaths in Maharashtra, 62,053 deaths in Kerala, 39,613 fatalities from Karnataka, 37,904 deaths from Tamil Nadu, 26,060 from Delhi, 23,391 from Uttar Pradesh and 20,990 from West Bengal.

Previously, India’s first covid case was reported on the 27th of January 2020, in Kerala. With the country witnessing multiple new cases over the period of just two months, a lockdown was imposed on the 25th of March 2020. From there on, India’s Covid case tally had crossed the 20 lakh mark on the 7th of August 2020; the 30 lakh mark on 23rd August 23 2020; the 40 lakh mark on 5th September 2020 and the 50 lakh mark on 15th September 2020. The covid cases kept rising up and crossed the one crore mark on 18th December 2020.

The country was beginning to slowly and steadily come out of the grim situation, it witnessed in the past year, as the daily count of new covid cases had dropped significantly, when it was hit by the second wave in around April 2021. An even rapid rise in Covid cases was registered in the second wave throughout the country and India crossed, within a few months, the milestone of two crore covid cases on the 4th of May 2021 and three crore on 23rd June 22021.

The health ministry has stressed that more than 70 per cent of the deaths reported in Covid-19 cases have happened due to the comorbidities in the infected people.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare website further added that state-wise distribution of figures is subject to further verification and reconciliation and the government figures are being reconciled with the Indian Council of Medical Research.
