The prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) said on Thursday that he wants to open the case against the fugitive Ugandan warlord Joseph Kony in his absence. “Today I filed a request for permission to hold a confirmation hearing against Joseph Kony in his absence,” prosecutor Karim Khan said in a statement.
Ugandan rebel leader Kony is the ICC’s longest-serving suspect at large. In 2005, an arrest warrant was issued for him for 33 war crimes and crimes against humanity.
