The 3rd Batch of Capacity Building Program in Cloud Computing & workshops of training series in India

National e-Governance Division (NeGD), Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) organized the 3rd Batch of Capacity Building Program in Cloud Computing for Government Officials of Central Ministries, State/UT Departments, Mission Mode Project Officers, e- Management Project Managers and state e-mission teams. These workshops are a continuation of the training series on Cloud Computing – a major emerging technology in the digital world.

The workshops were held from 15-16 September 2022 at Gujarat Institute of Disaster Management, Gandhinagar, Gujarat. 22 officers from eight States / UTs, across Ministries and Central Line Governments of Delhi, Gujarat, Manipur, Kerala, Maharashtra, Goa, West Bengal and Bihar participated in the two-day residential programme. Ms. Shobha Ramesh, Course Director, NISG, setting the tone for the program, stated that the need to ensure data security, data scaling environment management, technology, reach and standardization to be followed can no longer be ignored. in a world that is increasingly digitized.

Shri Sanjay Gaden, Head, SeMT, Gujarat, highlighted the interoperability of the system and the role of cloud computing in expanding e-governance. He also highlighted other benefits of this emerging technology in disaster management plans, data protection and during pandemics etc.

The workshop brought together a number of experts from industry, academia and government to talk about key topics – cloud architecture, basic building blocks of cloud computing, data explosion, potential risks and challenges associated with cloud deployment, the role of the cloud in digitally transforming e-governance and how it can provide a scalable and elastic infrastructure, assess data requirements, and help manage bid data through distributed computing. The workshop duly highlighted the challenges in service delivery and the various factors that affect service delivery such as infrastructure, capabilities, scalability etc. A live demonstration of auto-scaling of cloud usage and benefits of auto-scaling was also provided.

The second day of the workshop focused on the common problems and challenges we face in coordinating with government departments and strategies to overcome them and introduced the participants to MeghRaj – GI Cloud, CSP Cloud Offering and Cloud Provider Selection, MeitY’s Cloud Guidelines and key issues in cloud procurement and cloud procurement through GeM. Using case studies on CoWIN, Poshan Tracker and Digilocker, presentations on project components, how the platforms were scaled, precautions taken and how business continuity was planned for all applications were discussed.

The workshop was the third in a series of Cloud Computing trainings for civil servants. As part of its capacity building scheme, NeGD conducts thematic training to build the capacity of government officials at both central and state levels to ensure availability of adequate knowledge, appropriate competencies and skills to optimally utilize the immense benefits of cloud. computer technology in the practice of e-Governance.
