Veteran actor Chunky Panday, known for his impeccable comic timing, takes on an exciting new challenge in the upcoming film Vijay 69. For the first time in his career, he portrays a Parsi character, and the experience was nothing short of transformative.
“When I got this role, I knew I had to go all out,” Panday shared. “I wanted to make it over-the-top, so much so that I had a dialect coach and went full throttle, dreaming of an Oscar-worthy performance. But then, Anupam Kher grounded me and said, ‘Let’s play it real.’”
Reuniting with Anupam Kher
The film not only allowed Panday to experiment with his craft but also reunited him with longtime friend and co-star Anupam Kher. In the movie, Panday plays Kher’s closest confidant his biggest supporter and bluntest critic. Off-screen, their bond mirrors this dynamic.
“We’ve been friends for so long real 4AM friends. Like in the film, honesty is at the core of our friendship,” said Panday. “He’s never held back from telling me where I’ve gone wrong, and I value that. I’ve always admired him for his guidance.”
A Tribute to Physical Comedy
Panday couldn’t help but praise Kher’s dedication to his role in Vijay 69, where Kher undergoes rigorous physical training. “We grew up watching legends like Charlie Chaplin and Laurel and Hardy, who made physical comedy iconic. But this wasn’t just about comedy it was real physical work. Anupam became an athlete for this film, mastering swimming, cycling, and running. Watching his transformation was inspiring,” he said.
The Role of Support in Panday’s Career
Reflecting on his own journey, Panday credited his mother for pushing him into acting. “There was a time when I doubted myself, but my mother believed in me. If I’m an actor today, it’s because of her unwavering support. She not only gave me life but also gave me the courage to pursue my dreams.”
Vijay 69 offers a blend of heartfelt camaraderie and humor, with two seasoned actors bringing their real-life chemistry to the screen. Panday’s excitement and admiration for the project are a testament to the passion behind this unique film.
