Budget session: Opposition parties to meet in parliament today to outline strategy

Like-minded opposition parties are likely to meet in parliament on Monday to outline a strategy on the floor of the House. The meeting is likely to be held at Rajya Sabha Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge‘s office in Parliament. Notably, the proceedings in the two houses of Parliament were suspended for the fifth day on Friday as the ruling BJP and opposition parties tried to vociferously raise their issues.

The furor continued to play out outside Parliament, with BJP and Congress leaders targeting each other over Rahul Gandhi’s remarks and the Adani issue. After the Lok Sabha met for the day, members of the opposition came to the rostrum with their demand for an inquiry into the Hindenburg-Adani dispute by a joint parliamentary committee. BJP members have demanded an apology from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his remarks in the UK, claiming they defamed institutions in the country.

The Congress claimed that the audio was muted after they raised slogans that Rahul Gandhi should be given an opportunity to respond to the BJP leaders’ allegations against him. Members of Congress claimed that no sound was heard for about 20 minutes of the House proceedings.

Government sources said the audio was muted due to a “technical glitch”. The Rajya Sabha also witnessed disruption and was adjourned for the day. The Chamber previously took over some of the listed businesses. The second part of the budget negotiations began on March 13. BJP leaders continued to attack Rahul Gandhi outside Parliament over his remarks during his visit to the UK.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief JP Nadda said Rahul Gandhi has become a permanent part of the “anti-nationalist toolkit”. “It is unfortunate that the Congress party is indulging in anti-national activities. After being repeatedly rejected by the nation, Rahul Gandhi has now become a permanent part of this anti-nationalist toolkit,” Nadda told.

He accused Rahul Gandhi of seeking “another country’s interference in India’s internal affairs “Rahul Gandhi, what is your intention in demanding the intervention of another country in the internal affairs of India? At a time when India is becoming the 5th largest economy in the world and the G20 meetings are being held here, Rahul Gandhi is insulting the nation and the parliament on foreign soil,” Nadda said.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge hit out at Nadda over his remarks against Rahul Gandhi. “They (BJP) themselves are anti-national. They never participated in the Indian freedom movement, worked for the British and call others anti-national? They are doing this to divert from the problems of unemployment and inflation,” Kharge stated.

“Can Rahul Gandhi ever be anti-national? Are people who debate about democracy anti-national? I condemn the statements of JP Nadda. There’s no point in apologizing. We will strongly respond to this in Parliament. Rahul Gandhi will answer it himself, that is why they (BJP) are afraid,” he asked.

Kharge alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had “insulted” the country on numerous occasions. “PM Modi said that people and businessmen are saying that what sin have I committed, I was born in India. Those who insulted the people of the country call us anti-national? He should apologize first,” said Kharge.

Rahul Gandhi refused to respond to Nadda’s taunts against him. Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur attacked Rahul Gandhi over his “unfortunately I am an MP” remark at a press conference, which he subsequently corrected after being checked by Congress leader Jairam Ramesh.

A clip from a press conference where Rahul Gandhi corrects Jairam Ramesh has gone viral. “Sometimes the truth comes out naturally and as Rahul rightly said, unfortunately he is a member of Parliament because he is using foreign soil to malign and spread lies about the same prestigious institution, the Indian Parliament. of which he is unfortunately a member.” said Thakur
