São Paulo: The Brazilian Supreme Court ruled on Friday that the social platform X, owned by Elon Musk, must pay outstanding fines before resuming its services in the country. The court document emphasized that compliance with prior penalties is a necessary step for X to lift the ban on its operations in Brazil.
Earlier this week, X informed the court that it had complied with the court’s orders to halt the spread of misinformation on its platform. Despite these claims, the Supreme Court maintained that X’s service could only be reinstated once the pending fines have been settled.
This decision comes as part of Brazil’s ongoing efforts to regulate the spread of misinformation on social media platforms.
