Mumbai: The Mumbai Police issued an advisory on Thursday, urging residents to stay indoors on Friday due to the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) “red alert” warning for extremely heavy rainfall and thunderstorms. Despite the alert, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) announced that all schools and colleges will remain open.
The IMD has predicted extremely heavy rainfall and thunderstorms throughout the day on July 26. The advisory from Mumbai Police asks residents to stay indoors unless necessary and to dial 100 for emergencies.
Meanwhile, the BMC stated that weather conditions in Mumbai are currently normal, allowing schools and colleges to operate as usual. They urged parents to rely on official information and avoid rumors about closures.
Heavy rains on Thursday led to the cancellation of nearly a dozen flights and delays in local train services due to waterlogging. Rainfall recorded in the last 24 hours was 44 mm in Mumbai city, 90 mm in the eastern suburbs, and 89 mm in the western suburbs.
