After various rumours hinted that Beyonce may perform at the Oscars this year, the singer has finally been officially confirmed to perform.
Other celebs scheduled to join the stage, according to Variety, including Beyonce’s Best Original Song nominees.
Beyonce, Billie Eilish and Finneas, Reba McEntire, and Sebastian Yatra have been picked to sing four of the five original songs nominated for Oscars this year, according to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
Beyonce will sing ‘Be Alive’ from ‘King Richard,’ a song for which she and her co-writer Dixson have been nominated. This will be her first live show in over two years.
Since February 2020, when she sang ‘XO’ and ‘Halo’ at Kobe and Gianna Bryant’s A Celebration of Life,’ Beyonce hasn’t performed live. Two months later, in the midst of the epidemic, she sang “When You Wish upon a Star” on Zoom with other singing stars for The Disney Family Singalong in April 2020.
Her most recent award show appearance was at the 2017 Grammy Awards, when she performed songs from her sixth studio album, ‘Lemonade,’ including ‘Love Drought’ and ‘Sandcastles.’
‘No Time to Die,’ from the Bond film of the same name, will be performed by Eilish and her brother Finneas. They are also nominated for writing the music and lyrics for the song of the same name. Yatra will perform ‘Dos Oruguitas’ from the Disney film ‘Encanto’.
Lin-Manuel Miranda composed the song’s music and lyrics, and is nominated for a second time this year, after his nomination in 2017 for the song ‘How Far I’ll Go’ from ‘Moana.’
McEntire will be performing the song “Somehow You Do” from Glenn Close and Mila Kunis’ movie “Four Good Days.” Diane Warren, who is up for a record-breaking 13th Oscar nomination in the Best Original Song category this year, wrote and composed the song.
‘Down To Joy,’ from Belfast, with music and lyrics by Van Morrison, is the fifth song nominated in the category. Morrison, however, will be unable to attend the programme owing to his tour schedule, therefore his song will not be sung.
Will Packer and Shayla Cowan are producing this year’s event, which will take place on March 27 at the Dolby Theatre and air live on ABC at 8 pm ET/5 pm PT. Amy Schumer, Regina Hall, and Wanda Sykes will headline the award presentation.
