Bengaluru Man Fired and Charged After Threatening Woman with Acid Attack Over Clothes

In a troubling incident in Bengaluru a man named Nikith Shetty has been fired from his job and faces legal action after threatening to throw acid on a woman over her choice of clothing. The incident came to light when the woman’s husband, Shahbaz Ansar, a journalist with The Indian Express vertical InUth, raised alarm on social media.

Ansar posted on X (formerly Twitter), tagging Karnataka authorities and calling for immediate intervention to prevent a potential attack on his wife, Khyati Shree. The post, accompanied by a screenshot of the threatening messages, quickly gained attention. Ansar expressed concern over the safety of his wife after Shetty threatened to disfigure her face with acid.

Public Response Leads to Swift Action
Following the social media outcry, users were able to trace Shetty to his workplace. Etios Digital Services, where Shetty was employed, swiftly responded by terminating his employment. In a public statement posted on Instagram, the company expressed its dismay over the incident, stating that such behavior was completely against their core values of fostering a respectful environment.

“As a company committed to fostering a safe and respectful environment, we have taken immediate action. Nikith’s employment has been terminated for a period of five years, and we have filed a case against him to ensure accountability for his actions,” Etios Services stated. The company further reaffirmed its commitment to addressing the issue responsibly by pursuing legal action.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage on social media, with many commending the swift actions taken by the company. Ansar also took to social media to thank those who supported his call for action, acknowledging the prompt dismissal of Shetty.

Under the recently updated Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), acid attacks are treated as severe crimes. Section 124 of the BNS lays out harsh penalties for anyone found guilty of using acid or similar substances to cause bodily harm. Convictions can lead to life imprisonment and hefty fines, which are often used to cover medical expenses for victims of acid attacks.

This incident underscores the power of social media in exposing threats and seeking justice, while also highlighting the need for continued vigilance in ensuring safety against such heinous threats.
