Matt Reeves, the director of the newly released DC picture ‘The Batman,’ has announced that the HBO Max prequel series for the film would not be produced.
Reeves had earlier hinted at this on the ‘Hero Nation’ podcast, according to Deadline.
Reeves stated he spoke with the HBO Max executives about steering his ‘Batman’ spinoff series toward a more established character in the DC world rather than an original one.
The series was first announced in July of 2020, and was to be based on the film ‘Prince of the City,’ where the storyline was to follow a cop who was fighting for his soul before being reawakened by a rising Gotham City vigilante, aka the Batman.
Reeves had previously said in a podcast that there was one thing that they were not doing, which he was planning to do. Initially, there was a Gotham police show, which has been placed on hold and they won’t be doing it.
According to Deadline, Reeves expressed interest in returning to the Gotham City Police Department someday. In a recent interview, he also said that the series concept has developed into one that may focus on Arkham Asylum.
