Rahul Gandhi convicted in criminal defamation case, Amit Shah says he was not the only politician convicted by court

Union Home Minister Amit Shah says the CBI was “pressurizing” me to “frame Modi ji” (when he was Gujarat CM) in the alleged fake encounter case during the Congress rule”.

After the conviction of Rahul Gandhi in a criminal defamation case by a court in Surat, the home minister said the Congress leader was not the only politician to be convicted by a court and lose his membership of the legislature.

Instead of moving to the higher court, Rahul is trying to create a hue and cry and blame Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his fate, he said. Shah said Rahul Gandhi should approach a higher court and fight his case instead of trying to pin the blame on Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Shah says “ 17 prominent leaders, including Lalu Prasad, J Jayalalitha and Raashid Alvi, had lost their membership due to a 2013 Supreme Court order during the UPA government that said an elected representative would lose his seat immediately after conviction. Still, no one protested wearing black because it was “the law of the land,”.

Amit Shah says “Listen to Rahul Gandhi’s full speech, not only did he give insulting words to Modi ji. He has spoken insulting words for the entire Modi community and the OBC society, there is no question of vendetta politics. It is a judgment of the Supreme Court of India that came out during their rule”.

Asked about the call to vacate his bungalow, Shah asked why there should be “special favour” when the Supreme Court said it had to act once the judgment became final.

Amit Shah says BJP does not want changes in the Supreme Court order

Shah says “It was a deliberate statement by Rahul Gandhi. If Rahul Gandhi did not want to apologise, he should not have applied for bail. Let him not apologize, BJP does not want changes in the Supreme Court order. The Manmohan Singh government brought in an ordinance that blunted the apex court’s order, but Rahul Gandhi tore it apart, calling it “nonsense” once he tore it up, who in his government would dare turn it into law? It was vetoed. Had this ordinance become law, he could have been saved”.

Asked about Rahul’s comment on Savarkar, the home minister said Veer Savarkar was the only freedom fighter who was sentenced to two life terms in the Andaman jail. Shah says “Such language should not have been used for such a freedom fighter, He (Rahul) should read grandma’s speech about Veer Savarkar”.

Amit Shah on upcoming Karnataka elections

In the 2024 general elections, Shah said Modi will again be prime minister with a larger majority. BJP will win more seats in 2024 elections than in 2019 elections, he said, adding that there is no unity among the opposition, he said. About the upcoming Karnataka elections, Shah said the BJP will comfortably cross the half-way mark and form a government with a clear majority in the state.

Amit Shah on Amritpal singh

About Amritpal Singh, Shah said that he meets the Chief Minister of Punjab every three months, irrespective of the government, and stands aside when it comes to the country’s security. Shah said the Sikh contribution to India’s freedom was immense; every Sikh wants to be with India.

He says “Many people have been arrested in connection with the Amritpal case, police and intelligence agencies are working on the case, we will take action against those involved in the attack, the FIR is already lodged in Delh”.
