Aman Sehrawat Clinches Bronze in Olympic Wrestling Debut

New Delhi – Indian wrestler Aman Sehrawat has made a remarkable debut at the Paris 2024 Olympics, securing a bronze medal in the men’s freestyle 57 kg wrestling event. Sehrawat’s victory over Puerto Rico’s Darian Cruz, with a score of 13-5, marks India’s first wrestling medal at the Paris Games.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to X (formerly Twitter) to congratulate Sehrawat, lauding his “dedication and perseverance.” In his post, PM Modi expressed the nation’s pride in Sehrawat’s achievement, stating, “More pride thanks to our wrestlers! Congratulations to Aman Sehrawat for winning the Bronze Medal in the Men’s Freestyle 57 kg at the Paris Olympics. His dedication and perseverance are clearly evident. The entire nation celebrates this remarkable feat.”

Union Minister of Home Affairs Amit Shah also praised Sehrawat, emphasizing the wrestler’s perseverance and strength. Shah’s message on X highlighted the pride the nation feels for Sehrawat’s accomplishment: “Congratulations, Aman! With your remarkable perseverance and strength, you have secured the Bronze Medal for India in the wrestling match at the #ParisOlympics2024. The nation is proud of your achievement.”

Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari echoed these sentiments, acknowledging the inspiration Sehrawat’s success provides to others. “Heartfelt congratulations to Aman Sehrawat for clinching the Bronze Medal in Men’s Freestyle 57 kg at the Paris Olympics! Your grit and determination have brought glory on the world stage. You’ve made the nation proud with your remarkable achievement, inspiring countless others to chase their dreams,” Gadkari wrote on X.

The bronze medal match saw Sehrawat come from behind to secure victory. After initially trailing when Cruz scored with a single-leg hold, Sehrawat regained control by targeting his opponent’s shoulders. Despite Cruz briefly taking the lead with a two-point move, Sehrawat’s strategic plays and technical superiority ultimately led to his triumph, sealing the bout with just 37 seconds remaining.

Sehrawat’s win not only marks a personal milestone but also adds to India’s growing legacy in Olympic wrestling.
