A chadar in the name of Prime Minister Narendra Modi was offered during the Urs of Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti at the Ajmer dargah on Wednesday. A chadar on behalf of Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot was also presented.
The Urs commemorates the death anniversary of Chishti, one of the most notable Sufi saints who was also known as ‘Gharib Nawaz’ or the benefactor of the poor, and attracts a large crowd.
Modi wished the Chishti followers across the world on the occasion of 811th Urs and pointed out the rich heritage of the country where there is harmonious coexistence of different beliefs and faiths.
“Scientists, pirates and fakirs have always strengthened the cultural fabric of the nation through the message of peace, unity and harmony,” read the Prime Minister’s message in Hindi.
“Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti is a symbol of the great spiritual traditions of India. The service to humanity rendered by ‘Gharib Nawaz’ will continue to inspire generations,” Modi said.
A chadar on behalf of Gehlot was presented by Rajasthan Waqf Board President Khanu Khan Budhwali. Former Minister of State Naseem Akhtar Insaf was also present on the occasion. Budhwali read out the Chief Minister’s message in which he said that Chishti always advocated serving the weak, poor and destitute and preserving brotherhood.
