New Delhi: The Air India flight AI183, which was earlier diverted to Russia, has successfully taken off from Krasnoyarsk International Airport (KJA) to San Francisco. The airline confirmed the departure in a post on social media platform X.
AI1179 departed Krasnoyarsk (KJA) at 0002 Hrs local time (20 July) for San Francisco (SFO), carrying all passengers and crew of AI183 that was diverted to KJA,” the airline stated.
Air India has mobilized additional on-ground support at San Francisco International Airport (SFO) to assist with clearance formalities for all passengers upon arrival. The team at SFO is prepared to provide necessary assistance, including medical care, ground transportation, and onward connections where applicable.
Earlier, the Indian Embassy in Moscow dispatched a team of three senior officials and an interpreter to Krasnoyarsk to assist the 225 passengers and 19 crew members of flight AI183. The embassy confirmed that the officials will remain on the ground until the replacement plane arrives and ensures the safe departure of all passengers.
Provision of Amenities and Relief Flight
In a previous statement, Air India mentioned, “Food and beverage amenities at the terminal, which were closed for the evening, have now opened and meals are being provided to all passengers. Representatives from the Indian consulate in Moscow have traveled overnight and are working with Russian authorities to allow passengers to move to hotels, which have been on standby throughout the night.”
The airline also secured regulatory clearances for a relief flight that departed from Mumbai at 1100 hrs IST to ferry passengers out of Krasnoyarsk International Airport. “Air India regrets the inconvenience to passengers arising from this diversion, which was undertaken in the interest of safety,” the airline added.
The coordinated efforts by Air India and the Indian Embassy ensured the well-being and safe travel of the passengers, reaffirming their commitment to passenger safety and service.
