Aaftab Poonawala, who is accused of killing his girlfriend Shraddha Walkar and dismembering her body into 35 parts, will undergo another polygraph test at the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Rohini on Monday, officials aware of the matter said, adding, that the suspect will be asked to answer some as yet unanswered questions related to the alleged crime. Officials added that they will continue Poonawal’s narco analysis either on Monday or Tuesday if the polygraph test is concluded on Monday.
“We kept our lab open over the weekend for a polygraph test. On Sunday, the investigating team confirmed that they have obtained consent to detain Poonawal from Tihar jail and will bring him to the lab on Monday for the remaining polygraph test. We are also ready for his narco test, which will be conducted at Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital after the polygraph test is completed,” said Sanjeev Gupta, Assistant Director, FSL.
FSL officials said the first test session was conducted on Tuesday evening. The second session of the Test, which was scheduled to be held on Wednesday, was postponed after Poonawala reportedly fell “ill”. The second and third meetings took place on Thursday and Friday. “Poonawala remained elusive during the main sessions and hence we did not get the answers we wanted. He was constantly coughing and sneezing, which affected the readings on the device. The session data was analyzed and it was decided that several key questions remained unanswered,” said an FSL official who did not wish to be named.
Drug analysis and polygraph tests are inadmissible in court. However, the police hope to assess whether Poonawala was being honest in his alleged version of the murder through these tests. The test results are also key for investigators as they try to probe Poonawal’s allegedly contradictory statements. Poonawala is accused of murdering his girlfriend Shraddha Walkar in May this year, dismembering her body and dumping the body parts in and around forested areas of the capital. The gruesome crime came to light last week after Poonawala allegedly told police he murdered Walkar, 27, in their Chhattarpur flat six months ago, chopped her body into at least 35 pieces over two days and stored them in a fridge for about three days . months and dumped body parts in South Delhi and Gurugram
