INS Ranvir blast: Mumbai Police registers accidental death case

Mumbai: A horrific blast took place at Mumbai’s Naval Dockyard on Tuesday. According to PTI, the explosion took place in the internal compartment of the naval ship INS Ranbir, claiming the lives of three Navy personnel. Apart from three deaths, 11 others were injured in the blast, who were immediately rushed to the hospital. The incident has also raised questions about security, although it was not immediately clear as to what caused the explosion.

Mumbai Police has registered an accidental death case in connection with the explosion on-board the Indian Naval Ship.

According to the Indian Navy, INS Ranbir’s deployment was in cross-border operational field. The navy said that the warship was due to return to base soon. The Navy said in a statement that a “Board of Inquiry” had been set up to look into the blast.

Meanwhile, the three deceased personnel have been identified as Master Chief Petty Officer (MCPO) First Class Krishan Kumar, MCPO Second Class Surinder Kumar and MCPO Second Class AK Singh. INS Ranbir had joined the Indian Navy on 26 October 1986 and is a destroyer class ship. It is learned that there was no major damage to the warship in the blast.

The postmortem of three bodies was conducted at state-run JJ Hospital, the police official said.
