Mumbai Covid-19 Deaths Linked to Pre-existing Illnesses, Not Virus

Mumbai’s KEM Hospital has reported the deaths of two Covid-19 positive patients a 14-year-old girl with nephrotic syndrome and a 54-year-old woman with oral cancer. Officials from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation clarified that these deaths were due to their underlying health conditions, not the virus itself.

The update comes as India maintains a mild Covid-19 situation, with just 257 active cases reported nationwide as of May 19. The Health Ministry notes that all current cases are mild and under control, even as countries like Singapore and Hong Kong see a rise in infections. Ongoing surveillance by national health agencies continues to support India’s preparedness and response efforts.
