Chief Justice of India Highlights Role of Lawyers in Nation-Building

During the inaugural ceremony of Dr Rajendra Prasad National Law University in Prayagraj, Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud emphasized the historical significance of Allahabad as a hub of knowledge and ideas. He underscored the pivotal role that lawyers play in shaping the nation and promoting justice.

“Allahabad has remained a centre for knowledge and exchange of ideas for centuries. The University of Allahabad, considered the Oxford of the East, has been a beacon of knowledge for 137 years. Lawyers have significantly contributed to nation-building,” remarked Chief Justice Chandrachud.

He highlighted the diverse contributions of lawyers in society, emphasizing their crucial role in upholding legal systems and ensuring the protection of rights. “Lawyers play a crucial and multifaceted role in society, contributing to the functioning of legal systems and promoting justice. They represent individuals and entities ensuring that their rights are protected,” he added.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath echoed the importance of the rule of law in governance. Stressing the significance of maintaining public trust in the judicial system, he emphasized the role of the Bar and Bench in upholding good governance principles. “Bar and Bench always supported in establishing the good governance model of Uttar Pradesh,” stated CM Adityanath.

He further emphasized the importance of dialogue in a democracy, encouraging avenues for citizens to communicate grievances directly to the government. CM Adityanath assured the commitment of the government to address public concerns.

Additionally, CM Yogi urged Dr Rajendra Prasad National Law University to initiate specialized training programs for young advocates statewide, covering new legislation and judicial processes. He reaffirmed the government’s dedication to the welfare of advocates in Uttar Pradesh.

The event saw the presence of dignitaries including Supreme Court Justice Manoj Mishra, Allahabad High Court Chief Justice Arun Bhansali, and other prominent officials, highlighting the collective effort towards strengthening the legal framework and justice system in India.
