India Challenges Canada: Show Us the Evidence!” – India’s External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar Responds to Allegations

In a tit-for-tat exchange that has caught international attention, India has issued a direct challenge to Canada over allegations linking Indian government “agents” to a murder on Canadian soil. India’s External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar, minced no words when responding to Canada’s claims.

S Jaishankar asserted that if Canada possessed specific and relevant evidence, India would readily examine it. However, he didn’t stop there; he provided a much-needed broader context to the situation. Canada, in recent times, has witnessed a surge in organized crime activities tied to secessionist elements, extremism, and violence. He pointed out that this tumultuous backdrop was key to comprehending the complexities of the issue.

Moreover, India has not been sitting idly. Jaishankar revealed that India had actively shared information about organized crime leadership and terrorists with Canada. This gesture, he argued, demonstrated India’s commitment to combating criminal activities stemming from the Canadian soil.

The External Affairs Minister expressed his concern about the “permissive” environment in Canada, driven by “political reasons,” which had allowed these activities to flourish. Indian diplomats have faced threats, and diplomatic premises have been subjected to violence in Canada.

S Jaishankar emphasized that India was not merely interested in playing defense. If Canada presented specific evidence, India was more than willing to cooperate and address the matter head-on. However, he cautioned against premature judgments and highlighted the need for concrete evidence.

When asked about intercepted communications, Jaishankar’s response was unequivocal: If he had received such communications, he would undoubtedly examine them. However, he made it clear that he was not privy to intelligence networks like the Five Eyes or agencies like the FBI.

This high-stakes exchange has turned the spotlight on the intricacies of diplomatic relations between these two nations. It serves as a reminder that, in the world of international diplomacy, evidence and context reign supreme. The ball is now firmly in Canada’s court to substantiate its allegations.
