Veteran actress Sulochana Latkar, her contribution to Indian cinema, passed away at the age of 94

Sulochana Latkar is an experienced Indian actress who has worked mainly in Marathi film. She was born on 30 July 1928 in Satara, Maharashtra, India. Latkar began her acting career in the 1940s and became one of the most prominent actresses in Marathi cinema in the 1950s and 1960s.

Sulochana Latkar is known for her versatile acting skills and ability to portray a wide range of characters. She has appeared in many Marathi films and worked with acclaimed directors like V. Shantaram and Raja Paranjape. Some of her notable films include ‘Amar Bhoopali’ (1951), ‘Baiju Bawra’ (1952), ‘Dhakti Jau’ (1956) and ‘Tambdi Mati’ (1969) among others.

Apart from Marathi cinema, Sulochana Latkar has also acted in Hindi films. She made her Bollywood debut with ‘Daag’ in 1952 and went on to work in several Hindi films such as ‘Devta’ (1956), ‘Kohinoor’ (1960) and ‘Dil Ek Mandir’ (1963) among others.

Sulochana Latkar’s contribution to Indian cinema has been widely recognized and she has won several awards for her performances. She was awarded the Maharashtra State Film Award for Best Actress for her role in ‘Majhe Ghar Majha Sansar’ in 1990.

Despite her success, Sulochana Latkar decided to retire from acting in the 1980s to focus on her family. She continues to be revered as one of the iconic actresses of Marathi cinema and her legacy in the industry remains significant.

Veteran actor Sulochana Latkar passed away on Sunday in Maharashtra. She was 94 years old. Her funeral is said to be held on June 5.

She is known for playing the mother of many famous Bollywood stars on screen. Apart from this, she has also portrayed various characters who have been seen working with big names in the industry including Dilip Kumar, Raj Kapoor, Dev Anand, Rajesh Khanna, Amitabh Bachchan, Vinod Khanna, Sunil Dutt, Dharmendra and Jitendra.

Actor Riteish Deshmukh also shared an emotional message on Twitter remembering the veteran actor.

He wrote, “The news of Sulochana Didi’s death is very sad. A heartfelt tribute to this great actress who ruled the hearts of audiences in Marathi and Hindi.”
