 6 dead in tragic lightning incidents in Begusarai, Darbhanga Bihar

In a tragic incident, at least six people were killed in lightning strikes in different parts of Bihar on Tuesday. According to the chief minister’s office, three people were killed in Darbhanga district, two people in Begusarai and one person in Vaishali.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who met his Delhi counterpart in the capital Delhi on Monday, expressed grief over the incident and expressed grief over the death of six people.

He also announced an ex gratia of Rs 4 lakh for the next of kin of each deceased. Kumar urged people to avoid going out in inclement weather. Notably, the landlocked state of Bihar has witnessed a sharp rise in lightning-related deaths in recent years.

Lightning events have been increasing in recent years

According to the second annual India Lightning Report, the state reported the most deaths due to lightning between April 1, 2020 and March 31, 2021. The report claimed that more than 400 people were killed by lightning, adding that most of those killed were either farmers or the poor living in low-insulated house.

Interestingly, lightning is a huge spark of electricity in the atmosphere. The sparks, which initially start at the clouds, shoot into the air before hitting the ground. The report claimed that there were three kinds of lightning Inter-cloud; Intra-cloud and Cloud-to-ground. Most of the kills are reported due to cloud-to-ground lightning strikes.
