Manoj Bajpayee says Actors and filmmakers cannot take things for granted in today’s digital age

Acclaimed actor Manoj Bajpayee believes that artists and storytellers are now constantly striving to offer a unique experience because they know that the audience is spoiled.

Considered one of the finest actors in contemporary Indian cinema, Bajpayee said audiences have developed an appetite for versatile stories thanks to the plethora of content available on streaming platforms.

The actor said in an interview “A vast world of content is available on OTT platforms, giving audiences more options to watch. So as creators you are always on your toes, you have to offer them something that is unique, new, new should be the craft of storytelling, at the same time, as actors and filmmakers, we don’t take any moment for granted. You have spent many years in the industry, you have seen success or recognition, so you cannot afford to take things for granted”.

The three-time National Award winner said he is delighted to see the audience’s love for quality content and it motivates him to give his best as an actor. “Things are happening the way you wanted them to. It’s better to put yourself out there, give 100 percent, because that’s when we talk about the content (in the narrative) that we all wanted. I’m so glad this time is here. I am happy to see the talents really busy and enjoying their work,” he added.

“The Family Man” actor believes that the digital boom has come at the right time in India and has created a lot of exciting opportunities for creative people. Cinema theaters are very few in this country and you can make (so many) films… We needed something like OTT. But we didn’t know it could happen”.

“Nowadays OTT is happening, so you have nothing to complain about. I feel so lucky to be working at this time, there are so many possibilities. I’m enjoying it, I’m enjoying my time,” he said.

The actor is awaiting the release of his upcoming feature film ‘Gulmohar’ which is slated to premiere on Disney+ Hotstar on March 3. The family drama marks Bajpayee’s first collaboration with veteran actress Sharmila Tagore, who plays his mother in the film.

Praising his co-star, he said, “Sharmila Tagore was very easy to work with, she knew how to put everyone at ease. She worked as a team member.” “It was fascinating to see how nervous she was before the shot, hitting as if it was her first time,” he added.

Directed by Rahul V Chittella, ‘Gulmohar’ revolves around the multi-generational Batra family, who are about to move out of their family home of 34 years, and how this triggers a rediscovery of bonds for each of them. grappling with personal secrets and insecurities.

Bajpayee plays Arun, whom he describes as a conflicted man. The actor said his character’s emotional turmoil is what drew him to the film. “He (his character) is dealing with so many things, he’s always emotionally involved, he’s someone who is completely conflicted. He tries to hold onto the sand, but the sand is slipping, the inner conflict and all that drew me to him.

“So all those aspects and the world that he (the director) wrote, the characters, is something that I wasn’t a part of. It was a great opportunity as an actor,” he said. “Gulmohar” also features Amol Palekar, “Life of Pi” fame Suraj Sharma, Simran and Kaveri Seth. It is produced by Star Studios in collaboration with Chalkboard Entertainment and Autonomous Works
