25.25 million e-KYC transactions were done through Aadhaar & increasingly playing a key role for banking

The adoption and use of Aadhaar by the population continues well, which is a testament to how it is helping to make life easier. In September alone, 25.25 million e-KYC transactions were done through Aadhaar, representing a nearly 7.7% increase in such transactions compared to August. The e-KYC transaction is done only with the express consent of the Aadhaar holder and eliminates the need for physical paperwork and personal verification for KYC.

Aadhaar e-KYC service is increasingly playing a key role for banking and non-banking financial services by providing better and transparent customer experience and ease of doing business. The cumulative number of e-KYC transactions through Aadhaar has so far increased to 1297.93 million by the end of September 2022. Similarly, the Aadhaar Enabled Payment System (AEPS) has enabled financial inclusion at the bottom of the income pyramid.

By the end of September 2022, 1549.84 million last mile banking transactions have been cumulatively enabled using AEPS and the micro-ATM network so far. In September alone, 21.03 million AEPS transactions were done in India. In September, 175.41 million authentication transactions were done through Aadhaar. Most of these monthly transactions were done using fingerprint biometric authentication followed by demographic and OTP verification.

So far, a cumulative 8250.36 million authentication transactions have been completed till the end of September, which shows how sincere Aadhaar is with its stated vision. Aadhaar saturation is now almost universal among India’s adult population. Across all age groups, Aadhaar saturation was 93.92% at the end of September. During the month of September, residents successfully updated more than 1.62 lakh Aadhaars as against 1.46 lakh such updates done in August.

Cumulatively, 66.63 million Aadhaars have been successfully updated till date (end of September) based on residents’ requests. These update requirements are for demographic and biometric updates done at both physical Aadhaar centers and using the online Aadhaar platform. Be it AEPS for last mile banking, e-KYC, Aadhaar-enabled DBT or authentication, Aadhaar is playing a stellar role in supporting Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of Digital India.

Aadhaar, the digital infrastructure of good governance, makes life and business easier. Digital ID helps various ministries and departments at the center and states to improve efficiency, transparency and delivery of social services to target beneficiaries. So far, about 1,000 social security schemes run by both the Center and states have been notified to use Aadhaar in the country.
