MoU to collaborate in various areas of telecommunications including IoT/M2M , AI/ML, Cyber ​​Security and 5G & Beyond

Center for Development of Telematics (C-DOT), a premier telecom R&D center of the Department of Telecom, Ministry of Communications, Government of India and Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IITD) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate in various areas of telecommunications including IoT/M2M , AI/ML, Cyber ​​Security and 5G & Beyond, here today. C-DOT has been a pioneer in the field of telecommunications since its inception in 1984. C-DOT has undertaken several cutting-edge research and development efforts leading to the creation of a diverse product portfolio covering a wide range of technologies in the areas of optics, switching, wireless, security, network management and innovative telecommunications software applications. C-DOT has been involved in the development of domestic 4G and 5G systems in collaboration with local industry, academia and startups.

IITD has taken up its flagship initiative

IITD, an Institute of National Importance and an Institute of Eminence (IoE) is intensively working in the field of communications and related technologies. The Bharti School of Telecommunication at IITD has taken up its flagship initiative of multidisciplinary advanced research and development of solutions for emerging national needs in collaboration with industry and other leading research and development organizations.

This MoU aims to develop a mutually productive framework for collaboration between R&D and academia to stimulate the design and development of fully indigenous telecommunications solutions. It will be an effective platform for the exchange of knowledge and skills between students, teachers and researchers right from the idea and conceptualization stage. The platform would act as a catalyst to further transition new ideas into market-ready solutions.

Dr. Rajkumar Upadhyay, Executive Director, C-DOT, in his speech at the MoU signing, highlighted the huge potential of synergy between R&D and academia as one of the key drivers of the Prime Minister’s vision of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’. He highlighted the stellar achievements of effective collaboration between the original ecosystem partners leading to cost-effective domestic 4G and 5G development and expressed that the complementary strengths of this partnership between C-DOT and IITD would open up new opportunities to capture the entire Telecom.

‘Atmanirbharta’ in the telecom sector

 Technological environment with domestic innovations. He further stated that this MoU will lead to the generation of new use cases and futuristic telecom solutions for wider deployment by a large number of end users. He further noted that the convergence of academic excellence and innovative research will enhance our national intellectual property (IP) assets.

Prof. Swades De, Director, Bharti School of Telecommunication Technology and Management, IITD, emphasized the need to have focused and productive frameworks for joint collaboration between academia and R&D to bring students, faculty and researchers closer to bridging the fundamental gaps in an effective way for faster design and development of commercially viable technology solutions at an industrial level and competitive in the market.

 He highlighted the myriad dimensions of this platform based on collaboration in leveraging each other’s strengths and complementarities to achieve ‘Atmanirbharta’ in the telecom sector. He wished this engagement between C-DOT and IITD a grand success. Both C-DOT and IITD have expressed their confidence in the effectiveness of this collaborative platform and reiterated their firm commitment to continue with great success in this area.
