Complaint Filed Against Ranveer Allahbadia, Others Over ‘Offensive’ Remarks on India’s Got Latent YouTuber Apologizes

A major controversy has erupted over alleged offensive remarks made during a YouTube episode of India’s Got Latent, featuring popular YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, influencer Apoorva Makhija, comedian Samay Raina, and the show’s organizers. Following public outrage, a formal complaint has been lodged with the Mumbai Police Commissioner and the Maharashtra Women’s Commission, demanding legal action against the accused.

The Mumbai Police confirmed that an investigation is underway. The complaint alleges that obscene language was used on the show, with the intent to gain popularity and financial benefit from the online broadcast. The complainant has demanded strict legal action and the immediate removal of the video.

The controversy erupted after Ranveer Allahbadia’s remarks during a recent episode were deemed offensive and derogatory. The show aired on YouTube and quickly went viral, with many criticizing the content as inappropriate and disrespectful toward women.
Following the backlash, Allahbadia issued a public apology on X (formerly Twitter) and acknowledged that his remarks were inappropriate.

“I shouldn’t have said what I said on India’s Got Latent. I’m sorry,” he said in a video statement. “My comment wasn’t just inappropriate, it wasn’t even funny. Comedy is not my forte. I had a lapse in judgment, and I take full responsibility for my words, especially on a platform watched by people of all ages.”

He further emphasized, “Family is the last thing I would ever disrespect. I need to use this platform better that’s my biggest learning from this experience.”

Allahbadia also mentioned that he had asked the show’s producers to remove the insensitive portions of the episode.
The complaint states that the remarks were made deliberately to create controversy and attract attention without considering their impact on women’s dignity or young viewers. The complainant emphasized that minors watching the show could be negatively influenced by such content.

The letter calls for immediate legal action against the show’s organizers and demands that the broadcast be halted. It also requests that a First Information Report (FIR) be filed against all individuals involved under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The incident has drawn criticism from political leaders and activists. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis commented, “Everyone has the right to free speech, but that right ends when it infringes on the dignity of others. If laws have been violated, action must be taken.”

Former National Commission for Women (NCW) Chief and Rajya Sabha MP Rekha Sharma also condemned the remarks. “The video is shocking. Making jokes about a woman’s body is not acceptable in any form. Such content reflects the declining moral values in today’s youth,” she stated.

The Shiv Sena also strongly opposed the content, with party spokesperson Raju Wagamare warning the show’s creators:
“In Maharashtra, under the legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, such language will not be tolerated. Either stop this immediately, or we will take action in our own way.”
As the controversy continues to grow, legal experts suggest that the accused could face criminal charges under laws related to obscenity, defamation, and hurting public sentiment.

With public pressure mounting, the authorities are expected to take a final call on the case soon. Meanwhile, Allahbadia’s apology has received mixed reactions, with some accepting his remorse and others demanding stricter accountability.
